One of the reasons why I loved this book is the beginning of it seemed almost relatable. (Granted, by the end of the book, his life experiences are wildly different than anyone - even he - can imagine at 23).
I was a disciple of the #hustle culture, committed to success at all costs, convinced that with enough willpower, anything was possible. All I had to do was grind, and it would work out.
Self-belief. That was it. Thomas had it. That fairy dust. The ability to convince the universe to change its mind.
All this to say: not every success story needs to start with a cosmic, altruistic yes moment. Being rejected, overlooked, or ignored can serve as the greatest fuel for take-off.
